Mike Tyson Has Rough Night; Amanda Serrano Headbutt Victim

I’m not gunna sugarcoat it, Iron Mike Tyson had a rough night in his fight against Youtuber turned professional boxer Jake Paul Friday night.

As soon as Tyson made his way to the ring at AT&T Stadium, I had my first premonition that he was going to lose.  He couldn’t even walk straight; he kind of shuffled to the ring.  His expression looked unsure, unsure of himself.  Despite all that, Tyson actually did win the first two rounds.  He looked incredible the first round, if only to capture his former glory for a few minutes.

After that, however, Mike was extremely unsteady.  Commentator Roy Jones Jr. repeatedly remarked that Tyson’s legs didn’t look good. Incidentally, Jones fought Tyson in an exhibition match in 2020.  Tyson looked great in that fight, although it was called as a split draw, Tyson was robbed.

But that was four years ago.  This Mike Tyson, at 58, was totally gassed by round 3.  The fight was just 8 two minute rounds.  Tyson’s speed and power were evident in the first round, but that’s about all he had, sadly.

Tyson Gives Strange Interview Pre-fight

Tyson conducted a short interview which appeared on the Tik Tok channel I am Jazzys World TV, and it’s causing waves online. Tyson, if nothing else, has an exquisite sense of irony, even if it’s not intentional.  In this case he gives a very grim life lesson to the adolescent girl interviewing him.

The girl asks Tyson:

“What kind of legacy would you like to leave when all is said and done?”

Tyson considers that his legacy is irrelevant, because after all, you’re dead in the end. “Legacy doesn’t mean nothing,” Tyson responds. So fame after death is futile.

It was a very nihilistic Mike Tyson who reflected on his legacy before his fight against Jake Paul.

Amanda Serrano Clobbered with Headbutts

Amanda Serrano’s fight for the super lightweight championship against Katie Taylor Friday is sparking controversy for a couple reasons.  First, there was a contentious decision for Katie Taylor which is dubious at best.  Second, there is the fact that Katie Taylor’s most effective punch was actually with her head.

Apparently the ref agreed that the head butts were intentional because he deducted one point from Taylor.  On the other hand, one of the fight commentators Roy Jones Jr proffered that it was rather the result of Serrano fighting southpaw, which is supposed to dispose the fighters to clash with headbutts.

Intentional or not, the beautiful Amanda Serrano was bleeding from above her eye profusely throughout the fight. She posted some harrowing pictures on social media.

“Look at how they massacred my girl.”

Serrano posted on X:

To my fans I’m going to always give it everything I have. I’m a ruthless warrior & Katie is my buddy but Damn her best attribute is her head. No punching power but hard ass head lol.

Serrano later backed off the claims from her camp that the headbutts were intentional.  But I tend to believe her gut reaction in the heat of the moment.  Directly after the fight, she said in the ring that Taylor headbutts all the time, and not just against her.

If it was intentional, it was at least subtle. Taylor tends to approach her opponent head down, which conveniently results in her bashing them in the face with her head. So if this is an accident, it’s not one that Taylor is eager to correct.

Meanwhile, it tends to remind you of the headline bout contender, Tyson, who had a similar problem in his rematch against Evander Holyfield in 1996  There was also a similar discussion about whether Holyfield’s headbutts were intentional.
