Taylor Swift’s new song “CANCELLED” shows no awareness: The culture has shifted.  Why is Taylor Swift using the word “canceled” as though to imply that’s something that she would experience?  

And the lyrics are even worse than you thought: 

“Did you girlboss too close to the sun?

Did they catch you having far too much fun?”

From the song you would be led to believe that the phenomena of being canceled is for single-women girl-bosses. In her mind, you get canceled for that.  I’ve literally never heard of such a case.

Swift doesn’t seem to realize that the whole meme of the girl-boss is actually ridiculing a certain type of woman –and now disclaimer there’s nothing wrong with women having careers– but girl-boss implies a woman with an exaggerated sense of the importance of her career. 

Another line from Swift’s song CANCELLED:

 “Did you make a joke only a man could?

Were you just too smug for your own good”

Again, not really sure what she’s referring to. We have female comedians making the most disgusting possible jokes, talking about their anatomy, and nobody wants to hear.  It’s not funny. So there’s really no kind of decorum that says that females can’t indulge in crass humor. Taylor is grasping for something to complain about, and that is frankly why it’s so offputting.  

Musically, I don’t like the song, but take my opinion with a grain of salt because I don’t like this entire genre of music pop-music. And I especially don’t like Taylor Swift’s music. Maybe she has one or two decent catchy pop songs. But nothing iconic to my mind, not to the level of say Madonna or Michael Jackson.  Can you even hum a Taylor Swift song?  

Rather, she produces completely homogenized Muzak, it sounds like everything else. 

So how is social media responding to Swift’s new album? One user on X,  haunted horse girl wrote:

“Taylor Swift is corporate mean girl music and it's really fucking WEIRD how obsessed people are with her.”

I love that: Corporate Mean Girl, because her music does sound corporate and that it sounds manufactured. And the vibe is Mean Girl like she seems angry and bitter; particularly in this new song “CANCELLED.”   She has this resentment against men, not to mention conservative men or God forbid Donald trump.
